Running the London Marathon 2023 in memory of Pete

I’m running the London Marathon 2023 for Mind in memory of my wonderful brother Pete Newbon who died earlier this year, aged thirty-eight. I miss Pete every day and I am so proud of him. I also plan to run the Barcelona Marathon in March and the Edinburgh Marathon in May (life permitting). Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem and they campaign to raise awareness and promote understanding too. IN MEMORY OF THEA

This project is dedicated to Thea Cain (1980-2020) , who passed away suddenly, a week ago. Both Thea and her mum, Judy, had taken part in the project, and many others who have taken part are also people who knew, and loved Thea. I thought of Thea as a kind of little sister, although she was in fact neither my sister, nor younger than me at all. Many years ago, Thea had asked me if we could be sisters, and while I am not sure how well I lived up to this role, eventually living away in Barcelona, seeing Thea was always so special and such a highlight of my visits back home. Thea had a magical, childlike quality about her and a zest for being in on the action, and even in spite of any challenges she might have been facing that day, she could always reveal at least a glimpse of her big, beaming smile, that seemed to brighten up everything.
